Fix eBay draft CSV upload errors without rebuilding your file

Separate file-format problems from missing listing details, correct rejected rows and avoid duplicate drafts.

Find out which stage failed

Keep the original export and save the upload report before changing anything. A file that cannot be read needs a different fix from a file with three rejected products. Record the row number, field name and error message for each failure. Do not repeatedly upload the same whole file without checking what succeeded.

For example, if eight of ten products become drafts, retrying all ten can create confusing duplicates. Reconcile the eight successful products first, then prepare a corrected file containing only the two remaining products.

Preserve the draft template structure

PalletMargin’s eBay output uses a draft template with information rows followed by column headers. Keep these headers intact. Confirm that the file is still CSV rather than an Excel workbook renamed with a .csv extension. Titles containing commas must remain inside properly quoted CSV fields.

Use a copy when editing. Compare the header row with the untouched download if columns have shifted. An identifier appearing under Price is a structural problem; changing the amount will not repair the underlying column shift.

Correct the product, then retry a small batch

Check title, numeric category ID, positive unit price and quantity for every rejected product. Verify that the category describes the actual item rather than an accessory. Some requirements are completed later in the draft editor; follow the exact error reported by eBay rather than filling every blank with invented data.

Upload one corrected product and inspect the resulting draft before retrying the rest. Confirm quantity and unit price against your physical inventory. Then add actual photos, condition details, shipping choices and required item specifics before publishing.

Keep a reconciliation record

A simple record with your SKU, source row, upload date and draft status makes retries manageable. Mark a row Imported only when you have confirmed the corresponding draft. Treat Prepared, Uploaded and Published as separate states.

In PalletMargin, review the output before purchasing the export. If a product still needs identity research, leave it unapproved rather than forcing it through an upload to make the row disappear.

These files were generated with PalletMargin’s exporter using fictional demonstration inventory. Prices are illustrative; the sample is not market research or a ready-to-publish listing.
