Choose the right eBay category ID for a manifest export

Review category IDs for bulk eBay drafts and distinguish listing categories from estimated selling-fee categories.

A category name is not a category ID

An eBay draft export needs the numeric listing category ID. A supplier label such as Electronics or Home Goods does not provide that ID. Use the category that fits the product you are actually selling in the intended eBay marketplace.

For instance, a replacement charging dock belongs to a different product category from the game console it supports. The console name in the dock’s title does not make the dock a console.

Confirm the item before choosing its category

Review the model, pack count and included parts. Separate the main product from accessories, repair parts and empty packaging. Use eBay’s current category selection and guidance to verify the ID; do not assume an old spreadsheet remains current indefinitely.

Work through one representative product before applying a category across a group. Similar wording can hide different products. A headset, ear cushions and a headset stand should not inherit the same ID just because all three mention the same brand.

Review fees and listing categories separately

PalletMargin estimates fees from product classification for planning. That estimate is not proof that the exported listing category is correct. Review the numeric ID in Edit output and check fee assumptions for your seller account.

A wrong category can affect both the buyer experience and the requirements eBay asks you to complete. Resolve an unclear product identity before treating a fee estimate as a confident profit projection.

Validate the first imported draft

Approve a small set of products, download the draft CSV and check the imported drafts in Seller Hub. Confirm the category, price and quantity before preparing the rest of a mixed pallet.

Keep your own reviewed category mapping for recurring products, keyed to exact models or identifiers. Recheck it when eBay reports an error or the item differs from the product you previously sold.
