eBay manifest scanner: scan a spreadsheet for resale value

Learn how an eBay manifest scanner reads an Excel or CSV inventory file, researches sold comps and helps you review products before exporting draft listings.

What does an eBay manifest scanner do?

An eBay manifest scanner reads the products in an inventory spreadsheet and helps research their potential resale value. In PalletMargin, you upload an Excel or CSV file, choose the eBay workflow, run market research and review the returned comparisons. The starting point is a product list, not an existing set of eBay listings.

Here, scan means processing a spreadsheet. PalletMargin’s uploader supports .xlsx, .xls and .csv files up to 5 MB. It is not a camera barcode scanner or a PDF and screenshot reader. If your supplier only provides an image, obtain a spreadsheet or carefully prepare one before uploading.

Prepare a file the scanner can interpret

Use one clear header row and product rows containing a title and quantity, plus identifiers such as UPC or model where available. Keep totals and explanatory notes separate from inventory rows. Review shortened names that could refer to several different products.

For example, a row reading Speaker, quantity three does not identify a specific model. Adding the correct manufacturer and model or verified UPC makes research more useful. Do not invent an identifier when it is missing; obtain it from the supplier or product packaging where possible.

Follow the upload, research and review stages

First sign in, then upload the file. Wait for File uploaded successfully and check the product and unit counts. Uploading reads the spreadsheet; it does not by itself fetch eBay comps. Select Sell on eBay, enter purchase and freight costs if known, and click Analyze manifest to start research.

A nine-row file containing twenty-six units should not be treated as nine physical products. Compare the reported counts with the source before proceeding. If the quantities use cases or packs, normalize the unit basis so the researched price and quantity refer to the same sellable item.

Understand what the results do and do not establish

The overview combines available matched product values with your cost assumptions. Product results show which rows returned usable market data and which require attention. Inspect the fetched listings for expensive or uncertain products before relying on the total.

A scanner cannot inspect the physical pallet. It cannot establish that a returned appliance works or that a sealed-looking box contains the correct item. Estimated category-based fees also need review against your account and intended listing category. Treat the overview as a planning aid, not a promised payout.

Move from a scanned manifest to draft listings

Review each product’s output title, unit price, quantity and numeric eBay category ID. Approve only the rows you are ready to list. The separately purchased draft export reduces retyping, but you still complete actual photos, condition information, item specifics and shipping choices in eBay.

If you instead intend to price merchandise for a physical store, select the store workflow before analysis. That compares products with Amazon references and supports barcode price tags. It is a different pricing basis from eBay sold comparisons.

What to check when scanning seems stuck

If the file has not reached the upload-success message, verify its extension, size and worksheet contents. If the upload succeeded but values are blank, check whether you started Analyze manifest. During research, use the progress indicator to distinguish processing from a completed result with no market data.

For a completed unmatched row, review its source identifiers and description before retrying. Repeatedly uploading the same ambiguous title will not resolve its identity. Keep the saved analysis so you can return to the research and compare it with the inventory you receive.
